Every winter the Old Mill Gallery clears its courtyard for a single-material show. This year it is stone: fourteen marble and limestone works placed to catch the low December sun, open daily with free entry until the end of February.
What to see
Go mid-morning, when light moves across the courtyard wall piece by piece. The two courtyard figures reward a slow circuit, and the small upstairs room holds the maquettes — the rough clay first thoughts behind the finished stone.
Guided walks from the lodge
Our Saturday sculpture walk leaves the lodge at ten, takes in the exhibition with the gallery's guide, and ends with lunch back at The Gable Table. Guests stay at the front of every tour — just put your name on the board at reception by Friday evening.
"The courtyard at eleven in the morning is the best free hour in the valley this winter."
